And no, there’s no obvious “help” button that tells you what a module does. You either learn by trial and error or watch YouTube tutorials. If you’re just starting out, this might be overwhelming. Plus, the virtual instruments are solid, but they’re not as polished as what you get in Ableton Live’s stock pack. And let’s be honest - if you’re used to Audacity’s simplicity, Cubase will feel like jumping into a war zone.

If you’re serious about music production and want a free DAW that doesn’t hold your hand, Cubase - Download for Windows is worth every second of frustration. It’s not perfect, but it’s capable. Skip it if you’re looking for something easy. But if you’re willing to dig in, it’ll grow with you. I’d say go for it - especially since it’s free. You’ve got nothing to lose but time.
